These vessels were generally owned by well-off families, and
used to carry cooked food to the monastery. This example is black-lacquered
on the exterior, and red on the interior. Approx 50 yrs old. Constructed from
coiled split bamboo. Four sections. The main section is fluted, the ribs having
been built up separately in thayo and stuck to the sides of the bowl using lacquer
as glue, and is supported on five small tapered legs. The top cup is new, and
not the original. 7½" high, 7½" diameter.
