These vessels were generally owned by well-off families, and
used to carry cooked food to the monastery. This example is black-lacquered
on the exterior, and red on the interior. Approx 30 yrs old. Constructed from
coiled split bamboo. Six sections. The bottom main section is fluted, the ribs
having been built up separately in thayo and stuck to the sides of the bowl
using lacquer as glue. The vessel is supported on six small tapered legs. 14"
high, 16" diameter.
